Teacher’s - Here’s an Exercise Strategy to help support your movers through pain

When a client used to tell me an exercise 'hurt' my first instinct used to be to move on, skip that exercise, and try something different.

Unfortunately this way of doing things just adds to the list of things our people living with pain CAN'T DO.

We want to be helping them discover all the things they CAN DO!

One strategy to try, instead of changing the exercise completely, is reducing the range of motion in the exercise.

You picked that exercise for your person for a reason! Trust your programming intentions and start exploring.

Is there a smaller range within the exercise that your person can tolerate?

Here's a short video demonstrating how some of my clients explore reduced ranges in their standing lunge.

Whenever I make a choice to modify an exercise this way in a session to help someone with pain I always accompany it with a discussion along the lines of....

"Here's an option we can use today to build our way towards the full range.."

"This is a temporary change for us to get started feeling the benefits of the exercise - over time we'll work on building your range back...'

Helping our clients find ways to do previously avoided movements, plus help them see a long term plan to getting back to doing the things they love is what it's all about!
