Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never tried Pilates before - can I still join?
Absolutely! We love helping people start their own Pilates journey! In our Initial Assessment and Private sessions we will spend time getting to know you and your goals and will guide you on the Pilates Apparatus so that you feel confident joining the Small Group Sessions.
I’ve tried Physiotherapy before and it didn’t work for me - how will it be different at AOK Keep Moving?
Sorry to hear things haven’t worked out for you so far. Physio at AOK Keep Moving is focussed on empowering you and helping you to get moving. Our treatment style is not about “doing things TO you” but rather in helping you build the tools you need for yourself. We do this by listening to you - your frustrations, fears and worries, as well as your goals and things you love to do! We want to know about the WHOLE you! This helps us to meet you where you are and build a plan TOGETHER. We are here to support and guide you, and to be your biggest cheerleader.
I’m finding it difficult to get to the studio in Bibra Lake - can I still join you for Physio or Small Group Training?
Definitely! ALL of our services are available online via Zoom. This means that you can participate in Physiotherapy or Small Group Training from home, anywhere in the world! Just be sure to select the time-zone that is right for you when making your booking online.
I want to join a class but I feel like I get lost in big group classes - will this happen in Small Group Training sessions?
We hear you! It’s hard to feel like instructions and advice are specific to you when there are 10+ other people in the room! That’s why we cap our Small Group Training sessions at four people per session - so that you get individualised guidance and support.
I’ve done Pilates before - do I still need to do the Private sessions before joining Small Group Training?
That’s awesome that you already have some Pilates experience! To set you up for success in the Small Group Training we still require you to participate in the Initial Private sessions. This is so that we can get to know you, and introduce you to our unique class format and Classical Pilates Apparatus.
I want to do my exercises at home but I have trouble remembering them - how will you help me with this?
That’s awesome that you are motivated to do your exercises at home! We will support you in this by providing a detailed and structured exercise plan for you to follow at home. If you are keen on apps then we can provide this via TrueCoach (with videos), or if you prefer paper-based we can send you a PDF with all of the details. We are here to support you with your exercise plan and are always happy to answer questions or send videos to make reaching your goals as achievable as possible!
I’ve been told by other health pros that my back/knee/shoulder/other condition is “the worst they’ve ever seen!” Surely there’s nothing to be done about it! How can you help me with it?
Ouch! We’re sorry to hear about that! Here at AOK Keep Moving we trust in your body's amazing ability to change, adapt and get stronger. Pain is a complex experience that includes your WHOLE body. Even though we might not be able to change the result of your anatomy on the x-ray or CT scan there are still many different factors we CAN address and make changes in to help you get moving and feel stronger!
I have tried to get back into exercises in the past but it just made things worse - how will it be different this time?
Here at AOK Keep Moving we are experts at meeting you where you are! There could be many different reasons why your previous attempts didn’t quite work out. Together we can discuss your past experiences for clues about why they didn’t work for you, and make different decisions moving forward. We are big advocates for taking small steps forward at a time when getting back into exercise after a long break - this gives your body time to adapt and decreases the likelihood of flare-ups.
I’ve done group Pilates before with the Instructor leading everyone through the same exercises on the Mat or Reformer? Is that what happens in Small Group Training?
Our Small Group Training sessions are run in an “Open Studio” format. This means that all participants are working on their OWN individual program. Your teacher is providing personal guidance and support to everyone in the room when they need it, but you also have the freedom to explore and make your own discoveries!
