Podcast recommendation - ‘Can we unlearn chronic pain?’

The wonderful Ella shared a podcast with me recently that I thought you might also find interesting...

Can we 'unlearn' chronic pain - here's the link to the full recording:

https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/allinthemind/unlearning-chronic-back-pain-psychology-australian-survivor/14009724

This is a great podcast that offers another perspective about how we experience this very complex thing called pain.

This is also a great example of why here at AOK Keep Moving we not only want to know about "what hurts", but we also ask you questions like...

  • What other sensations are happening in your body when you feel your pain?

  • What emotions does this bring up?

  • What thoughts are you noticing when you experience your pain?

  • What beliefs are those thoughts based on?

  • What activities or movements have you been avoiding doing?

  • What impact has this had on your life? Your mental health? Your social life?

This podcast highlights some great examples of how our thoughts, emotions and beliefs have a direct impact on the physical experience that we have in any given moment.

We can use this knowledge to start questioning and challenging our current thought processes and actions around pain, in this way working to break out of the cycle we might find ourselves in.

Noticing and being aware of our thoughts and emotions is a skill just like any other....it can be tough to learn at first plus takes practice to master.

We have a couple of great events coming up that can be helpful in starting to build and practice this skill for yourself...
